2010 World Record Attempt
Thursday 31 December 2009 - 10:11:34
The R1 and R6 Owners Club will be attemting to break the Guinness World Record for 'Largest Parade Of Yamaha Motorcycles' currently standing at 206 bikes and held by the TDM owners club of Italy.

The Record attempt will be taking place on Sunday 27th June 2010, at Supercar Sunday, hosted by Gaydon Heritage Motor Centre. Supercar Sunday is a huge event of classic and current sports and race cars, and this year are expanding to superbikes too. There will be entertainment from stunt riders, and plenty to see and do, alogn with the record attempt.

We will be having a stand at the show, displaying all of the clubs bikes to the general public, with a parade rideout for the record attempt around their proving ground test track in the afternoon. As club members we have discount entry to the event, from the usual £11 to £7, and we have tickets for sale through the club very soon. There will also be a stand from Yamaha, some bike mags, trade stalls and a lot more.

Right now we need your help! We need to spread the word, to make sure that over 207 bikes are going to be there, so tell every R1 and R6 owner you know to save the date, print out the flier and hand them out at your local meets, print out the poster and ask your local dealers to put it up in the shop, and together we can all be record breakers (cue Roy Castle on the trumpet!)

All the details and chat about the attempt can be found in the Forum Events section of the site here - -Click Here-.

Hope to see you all there!

New R1 wins MCN Bike of the year award
Monday 14 December 2009 - 10:34:32
An expert panel of judges headed by Marc Potter, the Editor of motorcycling’s weekly newspaper Motor Cycle News (MCN), announced the winner of the coveted MCN Bike of the Year award, the Yamaha YZF-R1. “It’sa no-brainer” said one judge; “You simply couldn’t give the award to any other bike” said another. The praise was without qualification and the decision unanimous.

Yamaha took a massive gamble when it launched the 2009 R1, altering the character of superbikes, abandoning the headline-grabbing horsepower war and asking riders to relearn how to get the best from their bike. But it worked. The crossplane-cranked R1 was a real risk but a genuine innovation, and one that’s been rewarded with championship wins the world over. In finding a way to innovate in a class that had become conservative as it approached the limits of conventional performance, Yamaha has set a powerful example to other manufacturers ? and inspired bike buyers to believe there’s life (lots of it) in the superbike class again’’.

In addition to the top honour, the Yamaha superbike also scooped the award for Best Sportsbike over 601cc and to top it all the economical and competitively priced Yamaha Vity was voted Best Scooter by the MCN judges. Yamaha’s Managing Director Andrew Smith said ‘‘The MCN awards are the real benchmark for our industry and we are delighted to scoop the “Major“ prize. They top a fantastic year for Yamaha with us achieving number one in the market, one British and no less than 5 World Championships in 2009. With a comprehensive range of scooter’s and motorcycles available to customers moving into 2010, we feel that we are in a very strong position to capitalise on these fantastic achievements and make a visit to a Yamaha Dealer a must!.’’
